52 weeks of gratitude

52 Weeks of Gratitude Week 14

Week 14: A talent you have

When I started writing this I looked up the definition of the word talent and apparently it is the natural ability to be good at something, especially without being taught.

When I think about what my talents are I suppose musical things spring to mind. I’ve studied Music at university and now teach it. I can play a few instruments and can sing. I’ve worked really hard to be do those things. I don’t know how much of this is natural ability and how much is hours of practice and training. I’m extremely grateful that I was encouraged to put the work in to become talented in those areas and grateful that I am able to enjoy singing, playing instruments and song writing.

I have tried to think of 5 things that I can do that I haven’t been taught.

  1. Singing harmonies. I don’t think I learnt to do this. I can just hear them in my head.
  2. Teaching. I am a qualified teacher but I don’t think I love teaching and am confident standing in a class of teenagers because of what I learnt on my course. It just feels natural.
  3. Making sponge cake. I think that some people can make a good sponge cake whereas others cannot. I can make a sponge cake. I have a secret ingredient.
  4. Reading. I read really fast and still take it in.
  5. Talking. I love to talk. I can talk for hours.

You may have noticed that I have skipped a week. Week 13 of the 52 Weeks of Gratitude Challenge was about a challenge I have overcome. I’ve written about it. I just cannot decide whether to post it or not. That seems to be a challenge to overcome in itself!
